The 51-year-old George father who drugged and raped seven of his 12-year-old daughter’s friends has finally received 37 life sentences for the crimes he was found guilty of.
In addition to the 37 life sentences, he has also bagged an additional 10-year sentence for producing child pornography as he was in possession of the nude pictures of the young girls he raped.
The George father whose name is not revealed to protect the identity of the daughter and her friends was said to have given the victims who were between the ages of 10 and 12, sleeping tablets which left them unconscious before he had his way with them.
He did not stop at raping the innocent girls, but went ahead to take pictures of their naked bodies.
The 51-year-old man who was slammed with a 3000 count charges entered into a plea bargain on January 25. He pleaded guilty to 67 of the charges, 37 of which related to the rapes and the rest to the creation of pornography as he photographed the unconscious girls’ naked bodies.
The incidents took place during 2012 and 2014 but he was arrested in 2014.
However, with much tears trailing down his cheeks during sentencing arguments in the Thembalethu Regional Court, he apologized saying: “I am sorry for what I have done and I hope you can forgive me one day. I know I won’t be able to (forgive myself),” he said.
He also thanked the parents of his victims for not letting out their anger upon his family.
The plea agreement and apology in January made the State to drop around 3,000 other charges in a plea levelled against him.
His apology was later criticized by prosecutor Brandon Smith, who said he believed it focused more on himself than the victims and that the court should take a careful look at the man before sentencing.
The George father was convicted and sentenced on 37 charges of child rape and 29 charges of creating child pornography.
Both the 37 life sentences and 10-year sentence will run simultaneously.
A literal interpretation of the sentences according to the National Prosecuting Authority is that the 51-year-old will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
