South Africa has been described as one of the top most countries in the world where rape is likely dominant with an estimated 500,000 cases taking place every year. If you have manipulated anyone to get him/her to engage in unwanted sexual activity without his or her consent, then you have sexually violated such person.

Though the country’s annual crime figures saw the number of sexual offences drop by just over 5% to 53, 617 between 2014–2015, most researchers believe this figure reflects only a fraction of the actual number that occur. Apparently, rape in South Africa has become a crisis that has refused to go away. The more steps are taken to deal with it, the more it raises up its ugly head.

2016 has not gone quarter, but several rape cases has already been recorded and the most worrying part of the stories are the confidence and preposterous attitude that accompany them. One of such cases can be seen in the recent rape case of 26 years Thabiso Mofokeng who takes pleasure in praying for his victims before he carries out his obnoxious acts.

Hearing the case in court on Thursday, Mofokeng was said to have attacked his first victim who is a resident of Elsburg on Gauteng‘s East Rand while she was taking her morning Jog. He dragged her into a bush, prayed, then strangled her until he was sure she had passed out before he raped her. The same action was testified by several other of his victims.

In fact, it was reported that in some cases, Mofokeng would inject some of his victims with an unknown substance that would cause them to be unconscious for a while. Some of his victims testified that they were also rubbed of their phones, laptops and other important gadgets.

Though his sentence proceeding was postponed to March 30th, it was said that Mofokeng was linked to other rapes through his DNA after his arrest in June 2014. Judgement was delivered in the high court in Johannesburg‚ sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

A number of concerned South Africans have raised some important reasons why rape issues would not be easily wiped off the country’s system. The points raised include societal attitude which helps in boosting gender stereotypes, lack or few sexual education in schools and religious gatherings and failing criminal justice system among others.

Rape is peculiar to animals and South Africa is no place for animals and it is not just women’s issue but of men who chose to stop behaving like humans and start living like animals. Therefore all hands must be on deck to kill the virus before its effects begin to be physically seen in the society.
