With love in the air and the Economic Freedom Fighters preaching their gospel of ‘love one another’, The ANC Youth League – ANCYL has chosen to preach ‘no romantic relationships with members of opposition parties’ to its members.
Speaking to the party’s support group in Emjindini township near Barberton, Mpumalanga, the ANCYL deputy president Desmond Moela condemned it’s outfit members’ romantic relationships with opposition party.
Speaking further on this to over 500 listening members, Moela discouraged members of the league from having multiple partners worse if it happens to be with any member of parties that are against them.
“It is wrong to have boyfriends and girlfriends in the oppositions. You must make sure that your boyfriend or girlfriend is within the ANC,” Moela said adding that having one than more romantic partner also contributed to the country’s HIV infection rate.
However, this new announcement by Moela might not be seen as a spread of hate between parties but a way of sensitizing the party members about preventive measures against the wide-spreading HIV/Aids. Moela therefore told the members that it would no longer be acceptable for its members to be engaged relationships with more than one partners.
“It’s unacceptable to have more than one girlfriend or boyfriend. We need to be responsible with our lives. If not careful, you will die young and grow up in the grave. HIV/Aids its there and it’s alive,” he said.
A report released by Statistics South Africa last year revealed that one in every ten South African is a carrier of the HIV/aids virus. It said 6.19 million South Africans (11.2%), are living with the disease, out of an estimated total population of 54.95 million people.
Meanwhile, Moela’s statement might look absurd especially as his restriction of its members to dating only members of its party would not guarantee safety from the disease. But it would be applauded for enlightening its members on how best to live and fulfill their dreams.
