Following accusations that she’s promoting a ‘killer drug’ through her latest track Mercedes, singer Babes Wodumo has become a topic for discussion.

Thus, Babes’s manager Victor Dlokolo explained that she named the song Mercedes because that’s her “dream car“.

“There is not a single lyric about alcohol and drugs in her single Mercedes. A Mercedes Benz is Babes’ dream car which she wants to buy for her father and this is what she refers to in the song‚” Victor explained.

Victor blasted the rumours, saying people love to conceive negative thoughts about celebrities.

“People love to celebrate and pay attention to negativity‚ and give it hype. Babes is just sitting on top of her dream car singing her song‚ but now people are saying she is promoting drugs‚” he added.

The comments follow a press statement released by The Congress of South African Students (Cosas). The body called on singer Babes Wodumo to publicly condemn the use of drugs and underage drinking.

An excerpt from the statement read;

“We are challenging Babes Wodumo to come out boldly to denounce and condemn drug abuse‚ underage drinking and unlawful fun. We acknowledge the amount of influence she currently has on young people and we call on her to do the right thing and also contribute in fighting this pandemic.”

Cosas explained that the singer’s latest track promoted a ‘killer drug’ that has been destroying the lives of many young people.

“The title of the song is the same name of the popular drug in Durban and surrounding townships
currently. It is a new kind of ecstasy which is popularly know as the “killer drug”, which killed and
hospitalised many learners in KwaMashu and other areas earlier this year,” it said

Speaking on the issue, Babes’ manager rubbished the claims. In addition, he slammed Babes’ haters saying that they are just scared at how fast she’s growing her career.
