As a veteran actor he is, Sello Maake Ka-Ncube took on his gay character on The Queen and played it so well that his friends started wondering if he had been gay behind their backs.
Watching him star as Kgosi on Mzansi Magic’s popular telenovela The Queen is enough to convince anyone that he is gay. Considering the fact that he was only playing the gay character for the first time at the age of 56. However, the veteran has enlightened us on how he was able to pull it off so well.
In an interview with The Citizen, Sello Maake Ka-Ncub revealed how he had to warn his family ahead of the film’s release.
“After I had read the script and saw who my character is, I remember telling my family to watch as they would see me in a different light,” the actor explained.
According to Sello, he never really had much time to research the type of gay character he wanted to play. Nevertheless, he played the role like a pro, leaving a trail of impressed fans.
The actor has no doubt he delivered on his role as a gay man. Moreover, after playing Kgosi, even his closest friends questioned whether he had been secretly gay all these years.
“First and foremost I need to acknowledge that I am an actor and being an actor you need to be able to do all kinds of things. But this has been a challenge as this character has forced people to see me in a different way.
“My kids were shocked and my friends were convinced I had been hiding as I play this role so well,” he said.
Sello’s gay character got him the nickname ‘Queen of Memes’ on social media with some users using his pictures to create side-splitting memes on several occasions.
