One of South Africa’s most famous hip hop artistes Casper Nyovest has given insight on the reasons for his refusal to submit his works for the 2016’s edition of the South African Music Awards popularly referred to as the SAMAs.
Earlier in the week, SAMAs announced its nominees for the 2016 event which is expected to take place in June 4th at the Durban International Convention Centre and Caspper Nyovest was among the nominees for the best collaboration and best music video of the year.
But unfortunately, the award winning rapper declined from submitting his work claiming he does not want to win more of the SAMAs.
In his recent Facebook post, Cassper shed more light on his decision saying that he does not rate the SAMAs and does not care to win one.
“Why do you guys keep lying to yourselves? There is no award ceremony that I attend and I do not win!!! I didn’t submit because I don’t rate the SAMAs. I don’t want to win a SAMA anymore. I’m good without them‚” he said in the post.
Cassper’s refusal to partake in the year’s awards could be linked to his experience at the award ceremony last year where the rapper accused the awards organizers of “robbing him” of an opportunity to win the Record of the Year Award.
In a conversation with the media, the rapper expressed his anger against the award ceremony for not nominating his song for song of the year, not giving a chance for his fans to vote and for changing the award rules. “But it’s something that has happened to a lot of people‚” he concluded.
The South African Music Awards has since its establishment in 1995, recognized South Africa’s music artists through this annual ceremonies giving the awardees receiving a gold-plated statuette called SAMA.
Meanwhile, shortly after news of the ‘snub’ hit social media Cassper responded by saying that he had purposely not submitted his work for consideration and promised to address his issues with the awards in his music.
Cassper was among the nominees for best collaboration. He was nominated on this category for his collaboration with Major League DJz alongside Okmalumkoolkat, Riky Rick and Carpo on their hit song Sylza Tsotsi
He was also nominated for the Best Music Video of the Year category for the song Fuseg he sang with Riky Rick. The musician has in the recent times, been sharing experiences of his recent catch ups with world renowned emcees Quest Love and Black thoughts.
