Organisers have announced on Monday that the 23rd instalment of the South African Music Awards (SAMA 23) will be held at the Sun City Superbowl.
Notably, the venue for the awards was moved to Durban ICC last year while the Superbowl was going through a multi-million-rand renovation.
Nevertheless, on 26 May, the luxury resort in the North West province will be the official home for SAMA 23, having hosted 14 of the 22 previous ceremonies since its launch in 1994.
Excited about the return of the prestigious event to the Sun City, an elated Nhlanhla Sibisi, CEO of Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), who are organising the awards, commented;
“It’s such a delight to be returning to Sun City. The convenience it brings during a weekend of celebration makes it the ideal location for us. We invite local music lovers to join the industry as it makes its trip to Sun City later in the year for a party fit for our country and the continent’s finest musicians.”
Sibisi also called on music lovers to join the industry when it storms the luxury resort for the epic party later this year.
Also, the North West government joined in expressing excitement at the return of the awards to Sun City. The government promised an “unforgettable experience” for those who will be attending the glitzy event.
“We are delighted that this will contribute significantly to our Re-branding, Re-positioning and Renewal strategy through Agriculture, Culture and Tourism,” North West government said.
Surely, Sun City will be abuzz when the event comes back this year. With the number of music lovers that the awards attract, the city is sure to heat up with entertainment and loads of activities in and around it.
