It has been confirmed on Thursday morning that Darren ‘Whackhead’ Simpson will no longer host the Breakfast Xpress on 947.

While on the show on Thursday morning, Darren confirmed the news when he told listeners that he is ready to drop the mic on the breakfast show.

“I set myself goals when I took over this show in 2010 and I believe that I have achieved everything,” he said.

According to Darren, he put in his best to make sure his listeners are satisfied. He said that while people only hear him on air from 6am to 9am‚ he actually wakes up at 4am. Again, he very often leaves the office at 9pm. In other words, he puts in a lot of time at work, making it almost impossible to be a dad to his kids.

“The show comes with a lot of responsibility and I went up and told management that something has got to change.

There was a lot of backwards and forwards and this show will be moving to the afternoon. I’ll be able to tuck my kids in at night. For a family man‚ the afternoon drive is the best option.”

Meanwhile, Buzz South Africa gathered that media personality Anele Mdoda will be taking over the breakfast show after Darren ‘Whackhead’ Simpson resigned from the Breakfast Xpress.

947 confirmed the news on Twitter: “We are shaking things up”.

Thus, while Darren Simpson will move to the afternoon drive, Anele Mdoda will take over his spot on the breakfast show. The new reshuffling will take effect on 3 April.

Mdoda’s commercial radio career started with 947 when she joined the station with partner Grant Nash to host an evening show in 2006. And even though she later moved to the national station, 5FM, she returned to 947 in 2012 to take on a solo drive time show.

She also has a few things she’s doing on TV. In fact, she now hosts her own daily talk show, RealTalk with Anele on SABC3.

Her flair for talk and interviews will be most suitable for the breakfast slot which offers more time for extended conversations, in between the music mix.
