Nicki Minaj’s Pinkprint tour is obviously the best news of the month in South Africa. It is real and it’s going to be fun galore!
Yes, South Africa is set to welcome Onika Tanya Maraj, popularly known by her stage name “Nicki Minaj” into the country. 5FM’s DJ Fresh and Metro FM’s First Avenue team announced on Wednesday morning that the American rapper, singer and songwriter will breeze into South Africa in March.
5FM posted on their Instagram page that tickets for the big show will go on sale on Thursday, 28th January from 09:00. Fans are expected to get their tickets from www.ticketpro.co.za and selected Edgars retail stores nationwide. In fact, the news has made quite some waves in South Africa. Many are glad that this time, the music star would hit South Africa after she failed to surface in 2014.
Much has been put in place for Nicki’s Pinkprint tour. The show is being organized by Airey Scott Entertainment, 5FM and Metro FM. Nicki Minaj is expected to thrill her populous South African fans in Johannesburg on March 17th and the venue will be Ticketpro Dome. On 20th March, the American diva will cruise into Durban for another explosive performance. The venue for her second show is Moses Mabhida Stadium. She would be making her final stop on 22nd March when she will be hosted in Cape Town where she will perform in Grand West Arena.
“We’re so excited right now. We can’t get over how disappointed we were when 2014’s Tribe One festival never happened.” said the organizers.
In 2014, Nicki Minaj was contracted to perform at the TribeOne Festival in South Africa. The festival was scheduled to hold from 26th to 28th September 2015. Nicki was due to make the festival a big one alongside other superstars like Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and J. Cole. The historic diamond-town of Cullinan in the Tshwane City was selected to host the renowned superstars. But, the Anaconda singer couldn’t show up because of a bitter battle between the City of Tshwane and organizers of the festival. Over 150 artists were contracted for the big TribeOne Festival show then.
The Trinidadian-born American rapper, songwriter and singer was born in Saint James. She was raised in South Jamaica, Queens, New York. She came to limelight after she released three mixtapes between 2007-2009. Her Debut studio album Pink Friday highballed the superstar to fame in the US music industry in 2010.
The Grammy-Award-nominated superstar was also the first female artist listed on MTV’s Annual Hottest MC List. Of course, Nicki Minaj is considered “the most influential female rapper of all time”. Currently, she takes the lead on Billboard Hot Chart, making history as the best female rapper ever.
Apart from holding the music mic, she has starred in movies like 2016’s Barbershop 3 alongside Cedric and Ice Cube, Ice age: Continental Drift and The Other Woman. The superstar has also judged American Idol.
On social media, she swept many artists off their feet with an amazing number of 96 million fans. Wow! South Africa would probably not forget Nicki’s tour for thousand years to come.
