Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa canceled his door-to-door programme planned to take place in Tembisa and Soweto townships ahead of the ANC 105th birthday celebrations this weekend.
Ramaphosa announced this on Thursday saying his visit to these two towns will be suspended indefinitely so himself and the other members of the ruling party who were expected to join him, could prepare for the ANC 105th birthday celebrations.
He was scheduled to conduct door-to-door visits in Tembisa and Soweto on Friday and Saturday as part of a build-up campaign towards the organisation’s 105 years celebrations and January 8th Statement.
The Deputy President was also meant to hold a mini-rally at the Winnie Mandela Township Taxi Rank, and have a dialogue with the South African Youth Council (SAYC) in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni.
“A new media programme shall be released in due course. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” said ANC spokesperson, Khusela Sangoni who failed to further explain why the engagement was withdrawn.
Many ANC leaders engaged themselves in similar campaigns in their respective constituencies. This is meant to rekindle the love for ANC in the heart of the people who seem to have lost hope in the party.
The main 105th anniversary celebrations and January 8th Statement are set to take place on Sunday at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula earlier announced that 800 buses and shuttles will be deployed to transport people to the stadium and various pick-up points will be allocated for people with disabilities‚ including faith-based organizations.
The state security department has also put in place, a quality security measure ahead of the event. The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department and an additional 2000 security marshals will patrol in and around the venue.
