Radio personality Phat Joe has lambasted protesting students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal for being ‘worst people in the world’.
While some citizens of the country supported the efforts of the protesting students, Phat Joe took to his East Coast radio show to criticize them.
The controversial radio jock aired his opinion through his daily rant show on his East Coast Radio show entitled; Worst Person the World.
During his Thursday show, Joe picked the protesting students at the university to discuss the title. Apparently, he took exception to their behaviour during protests at the university’s campuses this week. Joe took time to highlight the reasons why he tagged the students; ‘worst people in the world’.
“You get told that there is an eight-percent fees increase and what do you do? You set the RMS building alight. You burn an exam venue at the Pietermaritzburg UKZN campus. You burn six cars. And you also lied to us. You said that you were unarmed, defenceless, peaceful and that you were shot upon by live ammunition.”
In addition, Joe urged the students to appreciate the educational opportunities they are getting. According to him, he had to get no less than three bursaries in order to study further.
“You have resources all around you. Your parent’s have sacrificed for you to be where you are. Some of us had to get three bursaries to get to school. Three bursaries, I had to get! I had to study hard,” he added.
“This is kind of like your parent’s refusing to increase your allowance so you burn their bedroom down. What is that?” he asked.
Consequently, the university has suspended activities at all five of its campuses following the protests.
