South Africa’s official opposition party says the new Public Protector, Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane is indeed, President Zuma’s protector.

To the party, it is concerning that the new Public Protector who’s just two weeks in office, is increasingly showing signs of being subservient to the Executive.

DA said that does not only counter to her constitutional mandate, but also

does not instill confidence in the public that she will carry out her duties without fear, favor or prejudice.

DA’s outcry follows the decision by the new Public Protector to not oppose Zuma’s interdict against the release of the state capture report.

Adv Mkhwebane argued that it’s not in her place to advocate that the report be released.

“I leave the question whether the report relating to the relationship between the Gupta family and the president, or whether the president and Mr Van Rooyen should first be granted additional time within which to make representations, in the hands of the courts,” she stated.

DA however, asserted that it’s surprising and concerning that Adv Mkhwebane won’t stand up to President Zuma’s stall tactics by challenging “the baseless interdict application by Zuma, seeking to halt the release of the report into State Capture.”

The Party’s leader, Mmusi Maimane recounted that he requested the investigation since the 3rd month of this year.

“I requested this investigation back in March this year, for then Public Protector, Adv Thuli Madonsela, to investigate the alleged project of State Capture by President Zuma and his friends – the infamous Gupta family.

“Before Adv Madonsela served her last day in office, she went on record to state that this report is in fact complete, finalized and ready for release.

“However, Jacob Zuma, knowing full well that the explosive contents of this report, and its recommendations would be binding on him, has approached the North Gauteng High Court to interdict the release of this report based on frivolous and unsubstantiated reasons. The report has yet to be released,” he lamented.

After-that, he vowed that the DA will fight in court on 2 November to ensure this meritless interdict brought by Jacob Zuma as a stalling tactic is thrown out of court.

He charged that the report into State Capture must be made public as soon as possible “so that the recommendations therein – which are legally binding – are actioned.”

The report must be released and made pubic, he stressed.
