BuzzSouthAfrica has confirmed reports about Proteas’ Kagiso Rabada being drafted by the Delhi Daredevils for R9.8 million.

Records have it that Kagiso Rabada came into Indian Premier League (IPL) auction with a base price of $149 254, just R1.9 million.

He however, engendered a bidding war between the Delhi Daredevils and the Kings XI Punjab which catapulted him to a R9.8 million worth.

Delhi Daredevils purchased the 21-year-old South African blower for INR 5 crore which is $750 000 or R9.8 million.

That, made Kagiso Rabada the third most expensive foreign player at 2017’s IPL auction.  At $1.8 million, Stokes’ Tymal Mills emerged the second most expensive foreign player. England’s Ben Stokes was the most expensive as he fetched not fewer than $2 million for the Rising Pune Giants.

Commenting on the recent financial fortune of Proteas’ Kagiso Rabada, his father Dr Mpho Rabada expressed that IPL auction will change his son’s life financially.

But then, Dr Rabada added that it wouldn’t take away Kagiso Rabada’s loyalty from the national team of South Africa.

“I am happy for him and supportive of him reaching his goals. His future can’t be summed up by bagging an IPL contract but more by longevity in the game at the highest possible level.

“The national team is the pride and dream (Kagiso Rabada), thus remaining very important,” Dr Rabada told ESPNcricinfo.

The Delhi Daredevils is excited with the purchase. They celebrated Rabada in several tweets as shown below.

Not long past, Proteas’ Kagiso Rabada emerged as South Africa’s highest-ranked Bowler. That was when the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings was released in January.

The fast bowler is now, one place ahead of Dale Steyn who missed the series due to an injury. While Rabada leads Steyn by two points, he trails Sri Lanka’s fourth-ranked spinner Rangana Herath by six points.
