A North West MEC has died. The MEC, gakgamatso Nkewu, until her death was the province’s Social Development MEC.
BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that she died when she was thrown out of her car in an accident which occurred on the N18 road in Vryburg.
Additional information disclosed that the car was allegedly heading to Vryburg from Mahikeng when it collided and fatally wounded a cyclist before rolling off.

Spokesperson Brian Setswambung, also confirmed the death to reporters on behalf of the provincial government.
“The MEC has passed on due to an accident just outside Vryburg. The driver and the bodyguard are hospitalised and are in a critical stage. The details about other arrangements will be made as soon as a government delegation has met with her family,” Setswambung said.
While the MEC was certified dead on the scene, her two VIP protectors who were with her are currently in the hospital.
The vehicle allegedly caught fire after the accident.
The rate of road accidents across the country is gradually becoming alarming. Ahead of the August 3 municipal election, some political parties have lost no fewer than two members to road deaths.
Last month, the ANC lost a prominent leader in an auto crash. The deceased, Joy Matshoge, until her death was Limpopo MEC for agriculture and ANC Women’s League chairwoman.
She passed away in a car crash outside Mokopane in Limpopo on a fateful Saturday night while driving to Gauteng.
Her body was found a few metres away from her BMW X5 after it swerved off the road, went through a farm fence and smashed into a tree on the N1 South near Nyl Plaza in Mokopane.
Prior to her death, the United Democratic Movement lost of its three Councillor candidates in an auto crash.
The three Councillor candidates, who are from Lukhanji Local Municipality died on the N6 near Queenstown while travelling from campaign in Lady Frere.
