Pearl Thusi, Minnie Dlamini, Boity Thulo, Pearl Modiadie, Nomzamo Mabtha, Khanyi Mbau and Amanda Du-Pont – these are just a few of South Africa’s female entertainers who are currently setting the international world aflame with their beauty and talents.

Pearl Thusi, in particular, has been the most interesting talk of the town in recent days thanks to her lead role in the second season of the critically acclaimed American Television show –Quantico.

Quantico, which debuted in 2015, is about an FBI recruit – Alex Parrish – who becomes a suspected terrorist after a bomb goes off at New York’s Grand Central Terminal.
Quantico chronicles Alex’s struggle to prove her innocence with the aid of her fellow FBI agents.

Quantico, which received acclaim for its story telling, its cast, its plot and its execution, was able to pull in millions of viewers every Sunday evening.

However, Quantico was also praised for its diversity when Indian actress – Priyanka Chopra – was cast in the lead role of Alex Parrish.

This trend of inclusion of actors and actresses from around the world continued well into the second season when Pearl Thusi was cast as Dayana Mampasi, a fellow CIA recruit and ‘ a driven, disciplined, type-A lawyer. After graduating top of her class at Harvard, she worked at an NGO for two years before joining her parents’ Boston firm. But though she seems to have it all, Dayana struggles to fit in.’

Pearl’s casting on the American show impressed many South Africans who congratulated her and promised to watch the show to support her.

On the fanfare which surrounded her casting announcement, Pearl promised to represent Africa in the best way possible.

Pearl Thusi Biography

She was born on the 13th of May, 1988 as Sithembile Xola Pearl Thusi; which puts her current age at 28, if you were wondering how old she is.
Pearl was born in KwaNdengezi which is in Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa.
Her native tongue is isiZulu as her parents are both black South Africans of Zulu heritage.

Pearl is the eldest of three girls. Her sisters – Prunella and Pamela – are upcoming entertainers is South Africa.

The girls lost their mother, in 2004, when Pearl was only 16.

Pearl Thusi attended Pinetown Girls High School for her secondary School Education. She has stated in an interview that she appreciates her time at Pinetown as she was given the opportunity to understand different cultures.

She studied Drama Studies at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
She later returned to the University of Witwatersrand to complete a Start-Up Venture Course at the university’s Business School.

Pearl Thusi returned to school again to study Communication Science at the University of South Africa.

Pearl Thusi Career

Pearl has had a long and well rounded career since 2003 as an actress, model, TV host, Radio Personality, business woman.

She is the co-owner of Ayana Africa – a modeling agency she started David Kau the comedian and Nzinga Qunta the TV personality.
Owning a modeling agency was a dream of hers since she became first runner up at 2003’s Miss Teen South Africa.

As a presenter, Pearl Thusi served as the host of the Lip Sync Battle’s spin off – Lip Sync Battle Africa, alongside Nigerian Musician – D’Banj.

She was also the host of SABC 3’s iCrew and SABC 1’s music show – Live Amp.
TV Personality and DJ, Lerato Kganyango replaced Pearl Thusi on Live Amp after she left the show to pursue other career options.

As an actress, she appeared on many shows including Jacob’s Cross, Soul City, Family Bonds, Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency and now, Quantico.

As a host, she appeared on countless others.

Pearl Thusi Personal Life

Pearl is a known Christian.

Much of Pearl’s personal life has been recorded by the media, including the fact that she is a mother.
Pearl’s daughter –Thandolwethu Mokoena – was born while Pearl was still married to her ex husband – Walter Mokoena, well known South African Sports reporter.

She is currently in a relationship with Robert Marawa, a sports Journalist who is currently a presenter for Supersport.

Robert is also a graduate of University of Witwatersrand where he studied Law.

The couple is currently engaged.

She is a dog/animal lover as well.
