It’s been a sorrowful year for the entertainment industry with the list of movie stars who died in 2016 getting uncomfortably longer.
We have had to bid final farewell to both the young and old stars who met their end this year. While some died of natural cause, some others died a weird and painful death.
Here are some of the movie stars who died in 2016
At the begining of the year, one of the most loved and admired British actors of the past 30 years – Alan Rickman, died in London at the age of 69. His death was confirmed by his family today 14th January 2016, saying he died “surrounded by family and friends”. He had been in a lost battle with cancer
Back in June, police report says Russian-born Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin, who was best known for his role as the young Russian starship navigator Chekov in the rebooted series of Star Trek movies, was killed in the most bizarre accident.
27-year-old Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin died around 1am after being crushed by his own car. The Star Trek icon apparently stepped out of his car in the steep driveway of his Los Angeles home not knowing that the car was rolling backwards, said Jenny Houser, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Few days after news of the death of Star Trek star filtered in, Italian actor, filmmaker and professional swimmer Bud Spencer died at the age of 86. Bud Spencer who will be remembered for his action-comedy roles passed away with his family present to bid him farewell.
In August this year, tributes started pouring in for one of the funniest actors in the entertainment industry – Gene Wilder. Gene passed on at the age of 83 as a result of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
The veteran actor will be widely remembered for his comedic roles in some classic movies he starred in. Some of his movies include – Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; Blazing Saddles; Young Frankenstein; Stir Crazy and The Producers.
Veteran actor Peter Vaughan, who became more popular for his role in popular HBO series Game of Thrones, died in the last month of the year at the age of 93. The actor who is best known for playing the role of Maester Aemon in the popular HBO TV series passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Alan Thicke, a Canadian actor best known for his leading role in the 80s family sitcom Growing Pains also died in December. The actor who was also the father of R&B singer Robin Thicke died at the age of 69.
And just when we thought we are wrapping up the year, Carrie Fisher – the woman who shot to fame as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars, passed away at age 60.
The American star actress joined the slew of movie stars who died in 2016 after suffering a heart attack while she was on board flight to Los Angeles.
