A certain rumour has been making its rounds that Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene was reportedly arrested for possession of hard drugs.
According to a fake news site www.te1egraph.co.uk, she was caught in the UK, a city she has never visited before with cocaine in her possession.
Initially, the report appeared on the fake website which is a counterfeit of the real website www.telegraph.co.uk. The news featured under the headline Miss South Africa 2016 arrested at London Heathrow Airport With 2kg of Cocaine. Though the post was subsequently removed, it spread like wildfire on other fake social media sites.
As a result, the beauty queen and the pageant’s organisers have had to issue a disclaimer to that effect. Contrary to the news that has been circulating on social media, the Miss South Africa Pageant denied that the reigning queen was arrested.
According to Sun International PR Manager Claudia Henkel, they would have allowed the matter to settle itself if not for the questions coming from legal media sites about the issue.
“We chose at first to ignore the reports because we believed that people would realise that it was from a fake site. However‚ in light of the fact that we have had queries from legitimate media outlets‚ we would like to set the record straight.
“Ntando has not been arrested and she has not been caught with any drugs in her possession.
“She is currently in South Africa and is not in London; in fact she has never been there.”
Ntando recently represented the country in the Miss Universe pageant at Manila, the capital city in the Philipines.
Before that, she took part in the 2016 Miss World Competition in the United States of America. Apparently, being Miss South Africa has taken her to a lot of countries but not the UK where she was allegedly arrested. Sadly for the fake news site, they forgot to their their homework.
