Earlier today, the Gauteng police confirmed that an ANC Councillor, Mbuyiselo Dokolwane was shot dead in Freedom Park near Eldorado Park. Based on an EWN report, the Councillor was killed when he was returning from a branch meeting.
While it was related that the details surrounding his death are yet to be uncovered, Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng police spokesperson commented; “We can confirm that there was a shooting and police are investigating a case of murder.”
Nevertheless, Gauteng ANC expressing its condolences to the family of the ward Councillor in Freedom Park, stated that ANC is devastated to learn about Dokolwane’s death.
Speaking, ANC Johannesburg’s spokesperson, Jolidee Matongo narrated how Dokolwane was killed, hinting that the ANC believes the death of their ward Councillor cannot be linked to the selection of candidates for the upcoming local government elections.
“a man came from a car that was parked for a while and they shot him four times. He was rushed to hospital, but died on the way. As far as we’re concerned, his death is not necessary linked to political process currently underway.”
Meanwhile, the ward Councillor’s 13-year-old daughter narrated that her father arrived home at about 8pm and that she witnessed his killing. According to her; “I went outside to close the gate for him and then I saw a man with a gun wearing a balaclava and blue overalls parked outside.”
She was frightened, but ran to their neighbor’s house to get help. “When I came out of the neighbor’s house I saw my father lying on the ground,” she said.
Rumor has it that a white Ford Focus without registration plates was seen speeding away from the scene. As rumored, another witness heard three gunshots and went outside to check what’s happening. There, he discovered the ward Councillor had been shot and critically injured.
The deceased was the chairperson of the ANC Freedom Park branch, and as well a central mediator involved in resolving the dispute between rival taxi drivers.
