Due to lack of ideas on what next to do with her character, actress Mahlatse Letoka who played the role of Xolelewa on Generations: The Legacy has been dropped from the show.
Spokesperson for the popular SABC 1 soapie, Gaaratwe Mokhethi confirmed on Friday that Mahlatse has left the show. In addition, to her story line coming to an end, Letoka’s role on the show was becoming redundant and had to be discarded.
From being homeless to getting kidnapped and forced into prostitution, Letoka’s character faced a lot of difficulties. Eventually, Gaaratwe said that the show’s writers ran out of ideas on what to do with her character.
“When you have a character who goes through so much‚ it is difficult to have them return to a normal life. That was the challenge we had with Xolelewa‚” Gaaratwe explained.
Meanwhile, Letoka also confessed to facing the same difficulties while trying to play her role. In a recent interview, she opened up about the struggles she faced in portraying her character. Apparently, it wasn’t as easy as we imagined it would be.
“It was very heavy. I had to do research about human trafficking‚ and to speak to people who have been molested before‚” she explained.
However, Mahlatse Letoka would not confirm her status on the show. Nonetheless, she said that she had met with the show’s producers last year to discuss how to push her role forward.
“It is not clear at the moment. I can say my character is on a break. I don’t know for how long‚” Mahlatse said.
Meanwhile, after bidding farewell to the popular SABC 1 soapie, earlier last year, actress Connie Ferguson is reprising her role as Karabo on the show.
