Lundi’s legacy project titled Legacy is set to be released at the end of March.
Fans of the late gospel singer are in for a treat with the release of the album made up of 18 tracks. The album also features four fresh songs recorded by Lundi Tyamara before his death earlier this year.
The album’s first single is titled Nomakwenzenkani. The track which is set to hit radio stations this week, features Vuselela Unembeza hit maker Fikile Mlomo. It was recorded in October last year.
Coincidentally, Lundi’s lyrics in the song were about coming to terms with one’s mortality. He sings: “Whatever happens to my life, you will always be with me.”
Secondly, Uyithemba Lami, featuring long-time friend and collaborator Sipho Mbhele, is also a part of the album.
His other songs from the 90s and his most recent song in 2016 Ithemba Lami Likuwe with the Jaziel Brothers will complete the rest of the album.
Meanwhile, the proceeds from the sales of Lundi’s Legacy will go to his family.
According to Lundi’s manager Anele Hlazo, the new recordings will be the last from the late gospel star. But though his unique voice died with him, his legacy will definitely live on.
“Lundi is irreplaceable and he created his own legacy. There will never be another with a voice like his. I trust that this album will earn its place of pride in every collection because it encapsulates what one of the most distinct voices and talents South Africa has ever produced had to offer the musical landscape,” he says.
While the first single, Nomakwenzenkani hits radio stations this week, the album will be released at the end of March.
Lundi died in January 2017 following a lost battle with stomach TB and chronic liver complications.
