The youth league of the ruling ANC has critically attacked Johann Rupert for telling the party to recall President Jacob Zuma from office. They said Rupert who is a businessman should leave issues of politics for those that knows it best.
Speaking un-behalf of the party, the KwaZulu-Natal provincial secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo said in a statement the ANCYL would be sending a stern message to the business mogul – Rupert- “to leave matters of governance to those elected”.
Sabelo’s comment was in relation to Rupert’s reaction to a report on Network 24 in which Zuma apparently alleged the business tycoon had flown back from overseas and met with a senior ANC leader to demand that the President reverse his appointment of Des van Rooyen as finance minister.
Under pressure, Zuma relented and within a few days reappointed Pravin Gordhan as finance minister.
According to ENCA, in the comments section below the report Rupert said he had, in fact, been in the country attending a graduation ceremony at the University of Stellenbosch.
Rupert was reportedly pleading with president Zuma to resign for the sake of the children.
“Yes, for the sake of the children you, you should resign, please,” he wrote in apparent reference to Zuma.
Sabelo described Rupert as a “racist imperialist” and a supporter of an opposition party – Democratic Alliance. He added that Zuma had been properly elected by the ruling ANC party and can not be easily removed
“It is only branches that can remove him, not some faction representatives no matter their current standing in society or struggle credentials and especially not by some imperialist who wants to continue looting the resources of our country,” said the youth league provincial secretary”.
The ruling ANC has continued to rally round their elected president saying the party is not concerned about the business relationship between Zuma and the affluent Gupta family except when investigation revealed otherwise.
