The state of the art tombstone is a complete marble living room with all the items that represent the biography of Mafela’s life. It also forms a great part of the actor’s legacy.
While the Mafela family remains mum on the inspiration behind the tombstone, the unveiling of the one-of-a-kind masterpiece has created quite a buzz on social media, with fans going crazy and tripping. There are many comments on how it embodied the actor’s life.

The elaborate tombstone was created by Bataung Memorials.
“We yet again today, were granted the opportunity to create a master piece for the late Joseph Dau Mafela. Rest In Peace Sdumo,” the company wrote on their Facebook page.
The company also designed tombstones for many local celebs including; Vuyo Mbuli, Nkululeko ‘Flabba’ Habedi’ and John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu.
However, it was Joe Mafela’s Tombstone that got the most attention.
The veteran actor was laid to rest at Westpark Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. The internment was preceded by an emotional funeral service filled with songs, performances and touching tributes.
Joe died on 18 March following a car crash on the M1 North in Johannesburg. Though he was involved in a car crash, authorities think the actor apparently died from a medical condition. This is based on the fact that Mafela who was found dead at the scene of the accident did not sustain apparent injuries during the crash, metro police said.
