Retired footballer Jabu Mahlangu has dribbled his way into the cast of hit telenovela The Queen.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star plays his natural role as a retired soccer star and motivational speaker in the series. Subsequently, Mahlangu, who is presently a SuperSport channel soccer analyst and motivational speaker, shot three scenes on Saturday. He is introduced as a friend of Goodness, played by Zenande Mfenyana.

Mahlangu said he feels honoured to be working with the big shots in the industry.

“I feel honoured to be part of the cast of seasoned and talented actors. I’m grateful to Connie and Shona Ferguson for this opportunity.

“In the show, Goodness invites me to motivate a young boy named Khaya.”

Though he is no stranger to the cameras, Mahlangu, who acted in the sitcom Samsokolo in 2013, said things were quite different with The Queen. He described the warm welcome he received from the talented actors and how the casting director held his hand while shooting the three scenes last week.

What left him awestruck was the fact that he was actually working alongside stars you mostly see on TV and they made him feel at home.

“They welcomed me with open hands and were very supportive. I could not believe that I was sitting with the people that we see every day on our screens.”

Regardless of his career as a footballer, Mahlangu believes he has great potentials in acting. Thus, he is exploring that part of his talent.

“I believe that everyone is born multitalented. I might have been a soccer star, but I believe that I was born with an acting talent. I don’t have to work hard.”

Expect Jabu Mahlangu on the screens on May 17.

Meanwhile, The Queen has been extended to air five days in a week. The show which debuted on Mzansi Magic seven months ago has undoubtedly become one of its most-watched series.
