It has been a rigorous competition to fish out the Idols SA Season 12 winner which turned into a record-breaking season with over 83 million votes cast.
The grand finale of the singing competition took place at Carnival City in Brakpan, east of Johannesburg where Noma Khumalo was crowned as the Idols SA Season 12 winner.
Noma pulled a spectacular live show last night when she snatched the crown from audience favourite Thami Shobede.
Meanwhile, Noma did not just win the competition, she also broke some records. She is reportedly the first woman in seven seasons to win the title. Besides, she is also the first black female to ever win the title.
“As a female, I feel honoured to be on this platform. And I thank South Africa for voting for me. The first people I want to call are the children at the school and also to spend time with my family and absorb what has just happened,” said Noma.
When asked if she felt she stood a chance with all the favouritism in the arena towards her opponent Thami, Khumalo said she was hopeful.
“Thami motivated me. He told me to give it my all and that we can’t do anything now as the votes closed off on Thursday. We fed from each other’s energies and felt we both had a fighting chance,” said Khumalo.
Noma’s debut album starts recording within the next seven days. Gallo Records to which she is now signed as part of her prize as Idols winner, is looking at a December release.
At the end of the competition, Noma had a Ford Fiesta 1-litre Ecoboost worth R257000 and R700000 cash in her pocket. In addition, she got vouchers for clothes and beauty products to look good for her new title.
If you want to be like Noma, look out for auditions for Season 13 starting in January.
