The country is still reeling in shock as details of Mandla Hlatshwayo’s Last Moments continue to surface.
While we are still trying to wrap our heads around the brutal murder of a young women (Karabo Mokoena), South Africa woke up to the sad news that former Generations actor and Jozi FM DJ Mandla Hlatshwayo has been killed. This sent shock waves through the country.
The 40-year-old radio host was killed by gunmen at a Pimville nightclub on Sunday night. Hlatswayo and a friend were reportedly killed during a robbery at the club.
Speaking about Mandla Hlatshwayo’s Last Moments, Jozi FM station manager Mpho Mhlongo said he was with the radio host a few hours before the ugly incident.
Mpho was left a broken man this morning after seeing his friend and colleague lying lifeless outside a pub in Soweto on Sunday night.
Afterwards, Mpho took to social media to confirm the tragic end of the actor and radio jock.
“It is with sadness that i inform you of the passing of our beloved brother, friend and colleague, Mandla Hlatshwayo. He was gunned down last night at Meli pub in Pimville. He will be sorely missed. May his humble soul Rest In Peace!”
Mpho was called to the crime scene at around 10pm.
“I got there and found him motionless. He was just lying there.”
However, it wasn’t the sight of his friend’s dead body that broke his heart the most, it was the fact that his shoes were missing. Apparently, his killers didn’t stop at taking his life, they also took his shoes!
“He had no shoes on. They took his shoes. They took his life and then his shoes. It’s all been very traumatic.”
Also, Mpho confirmed from eyewitnesses that Mandla met the tragic end while trying to save some women.
“As the ladies were leaving, they were being robbed. Mandla apparently heard shots and ran out to help. In the process, he got shot. He died trying to save someone else.”
Another eyewitness said six shots were fired in the shooting that killed the radio jock and his friend. However, the fate of the women involed in the incident is still unclear.
Describing Mandla Hlatshwayo’s Last Moments, Mpho said he was with him just hours before the ugly incident. This was when Jozi FM hosted a 8km and 4km walk through Soweto.
“Mandla was there. He was his usual jolly self. He was handing out medals to the finishers. Now he is dead. I can’t believe it.”
Also, Police spokesperson Captain Hitler Ngwenya confirmed the incident.
“What happened was, four armed men came into the place. The two victims were trying to rescue two girls who were being robbed and they were shot and killed instantly.”
Meanwhile, a police report says the suspects are still at large.
