First, ANC KZN lashed Mthembu for his resignation call for the entire ANC NEC. “Mthembu should do the honorable thing and resign first, without mobilizing others to do the same,” stated the ANC branch.

Now, the Free State ANC has indicated that they are pissed with Mthembu for making the resignation call.

According to the ANC branch, they are grossly disappointed with the ANC chief whip and he must be punished for his remarks.

Speaking for the ANC branch, Thabo Meeko stated that “ANC Free State is grossly disappointed at the posture Cde Jackson Mthembu has taken on complex political issues.”

ANC Free State pointed out that it’s a serious offense for ANC members to defined themselves outside “the collective”. Hence, the ANC branch advocated that Mthembu “must account for these reckless utterances.”

Undoubtedly, the ANC chief whip stirred a political commotion when he called on the entire National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ANC to resign.

He argued that the ANC NEC members have failed South Africa. And, that his resignation call follows the NEC assertion that no one in particular was responsible for the ANC’s poor performance at the local government election polls.

The ANC chief whip was quoted to have said: “Since we have then agreed that we will take collective responsibility for that, I then said to the national executive committee perhaps we must also take a collective fall.

“Why should we not step down, given that we have messed up? All these things happened under our watch.

“If we don’t do this thing then the ANC will lose the mission that is tasked with the total liberation of our people, they will be out of power come 2019.”

ANC also reacted to Mthembu’s resignation call urging ANC members to restrain from making public statements, particularly in the media.

“It would be irresponsible of the NEC to resign because it did not elect itself.  It’s not accountable to itself, it’s accountable to the branches of the ANC,” Zizi Kodwa stated on behalf of the ANC.
