Soccer icon Pele revealed he has found his ‘happily ever after’ as he reportedly got married on Saturday for the third time.
The elated Brazil football legend tied the knot with his girlfriend of six years Marcia Cibele Aoki, a 50-year-old businesswoman. The ceremony took place in the resort of Guaruja, near Sao Paulo.
Excited that he finally got it right, Pele told O Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper that this time, he has found “love forever.”
The romance between Pele and Aoki was really meant to be. The couple met in New York in the 80s but were not romantically involved.
However, in 2010, their paths crossed again in an elevator in a Sao Paulo apartment block where they both lived in and the rest of the story is painted in red and white.
Pele and Marcia were reportedly set to match down the aisle two years ago, but were forced to postpone the ceremony after he suffered a series of health issues.
Pele’s first marriage to Rosimeri Cholbi lasted for 12 years and they have three children together. His second attempt was with singer Assiria Nascimento which lasted for 14 years and blessed with two children.
In most of Pele’s public appearances since 2012, Aoki has been spotted by his side. She also accompanied him during his repeated hospital visits in recent years.
The great Pele is held worldwide as the greatest footballer in history.
He boasts a record of 1,281 goals in 1,363 matches, appeared 91 times for Brazil between 1957 and 1971. He also played his club football for Brazil’s FC Santos as well as the New York Cosmos.
In 2013, the all-time football legend received a FIFA Ballon d’Or Prix d’Honneur. The award was in recognition of his career and lifetime achievements as a global icon of football.
