Family‚ some high-profile personalities and well wishers including thousands of fans gathered at Moses Mabhida Stadium‚ Durban‚ on Saturday for Sfiso Ncwane’s funeral.
It was an opportunity to pay their final respects to the gospel star whose life was cut short as a result of kidney failure. Thus, everyone saw the need to endure the unfriendly weather to witness the event. However, Sfiso Ncwane’s sister, Gugu and other relatives couldn’t stand the treatment they received during the funeral and had to leave.
Apparently, Gugu and some other relatives were not allowed to sit with the rest of the singer’s family during the event. According to Gugu, they were forced to sit with the general public during Sfiso Ncwane’s funeral service.
Sunday Sun reported that Gugu was upset because she was not allowed to sit with her mother, Fikile, Sfiso’s wife Ayanda and their two sons in the VIP area. As a result, high-profile personalities and celebrities were the ones comforting Ayanda instead of family members.
Thus, Gugu and her relatives decided to leave the stadium to seek shelter outside.
“We went to the airport to receive Sfiso’s body, along with Ayanda. But when we arrived at Moses Mabhida, marshals told us we weren’t allowed to sit with Ayanda. Even when we explained that we were close family members, they insisted we should sit with the general public,” said Gugu.
She added that she would have loved to take her mum along if possible.
“I thought I can’t sit here and feel sorry for myself. I’m leaving and wish my mum could join us. It’s clear that some people don’t want us here,” said Gugu.
Notably, Sfiso’s mother couldn’t attend his memorial in Durban last week because the venue was too far from her. Besides, her requests to have it moved closer were not put into consideration.
