The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have called for the removal of Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane from cabinet.
In a post on its website, the party’s national spokesperson, Mbuyise Quintin Ndlozi, said that the party is now fully convinced that Zwane works for the Gupta family and not for the interest of the nation.
Pointing out one of their revealing facts, the party said that in one of his recent international trips, the minister formed part of the Gupta delegation of the Tegeta Exploration and Resources to visit Glencore in Switzerland and negotiate the purchase of Optimum CollieryZwane.
Ndlozi went further to state that if Zwane is not quickly removed, the ministry under his care will be captured by the Gupta family as they earlier warned against when he was to be appointed minister. According to him, Zwane has always served the Gupta family.
Zwane is nothing but a stooge of the Gupta family which he has served for many years; from facilitating their landing at the Waterkooof Airforce Base for a wedding at Sun City in 2013, to introducing a R570 million dairy project in which a Gupta-linked company was involved and set to benefit whilst serving as MEC of Agriculture in the Free State Province,” said Ndlozi.
EFF also accused the minister of using taxpayer’s money in order to secure business interests for the Guptas with a criminal company called Glencore.
Glencore is known for manipulating accounting practices to erode the tax base of African countries. It is also well-known for breaking international law in pursuit of profits by trading with illegitimate governments like apartheid and other despotic regimes despite UN embargoes. Its crimes even extend to environmental degradation in Latin America and a direct refusal to have women in its higher management positions by claiming that women are incapable of senior business leadership.
Further more, EFF said that Zwane’s appointment is far from being in the collective interest of the people of south Africa and therefore should reversed. “He serves at the pleasure of the Guptas and will do so to the end. The EFF calls on an his immediate removal from cabinet to save the country’s minerals sector from being completely collapsed and compromised by the corruption of the Guptas”, the party added.
Zwane had on several occasions been linked with the Gupta family business. One of the cases was his alleged role he played in the private jet carrying guests for a Gupta wedding in Sun City, landing at Waterkloof Airforce Base in 2013.
Referring to this, The EFF stated that in using his position to improperly benefit another person, Zwane had breached the Executive Members Ethics Act 22 of 1998 Section 2(b)(iv) and (v) which prohibits Cabinet members “from using their position or any information entrusted to them to enrich themselves or improperly benefit any other persons.” In Conclusion, the party demanded that Zwane be probed.
