Just after days of making history as the first South African house music maestro to walk home with a Black Entertainment Television (BET) award, DJ Black Coffee has decided to throw a free party in Mzansi.
According to the man of the moment who doubles as SA’s favourite artiste, the free bash would be holding in Soweto on Thursday, 30 June 2016 at the Zone 6 Venue in celebration of his latest feat at the BET Awards.
The international performer announced the big news on his social media pages on Tuesday.
The outstanding DJ, whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo, made waves last Sunday after winning in the “Best International Act – Africa” category at the awards ceremony held in Los Angeles, in the US.
The electronic musician proudly made history in the BET award after out-beating two South African competitors, Cassper Nyovest and AKA, along with nominees from across the continent: Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Serge Beynaud (Côte d’Ivoire), MzVee (Ghana) and Wizkid (Nigeria).
South Africans Identify With DJ Black Coffee
South African politicians, including President Jacob Zuma who later identified with Black Coffee on his landmark victory stated that the house music maestro will continue to inspire SA youth with his achievement.
Zuma added that Black Coffee has now become the country’s prime international export in the music industry as an example of the South African youth talent.
“Our nation is immensely proud of him and this achievement in particular. We congratulate him most heartily,” the president added.
The BET Awards was established in 2001 to celebrate African-Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment.
