For the first time in its history, MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) will hold in Johannesburg.
It’s now official that the glamorous award ceremony will take place at the Northgate Ticketpro Dome on October 22.
Accordingly, the star-studded event will feature some of the biggest artists from all over the continent.
The MTV Africa Music Awards, popularly known as the MAMAs, has previously been held in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. However, the city of Johannesburg will soon get to feel the groove from the popular event.
During press conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday, the decision to move the event from the coast to the heart of South Africa was announced.
The conference was attended by celebs like; Babes Wodumo, Tresor, Khuli Chana, Kwesta, Mafikizolo and Nasty C.
Rapper Kwesta applauded the decision to move the event to Johannesburg. According to the rapper, the city holds a special place in the hearts of several artists.
“The city affects pretty much every single thing we do. There’s not a lot of places in the world that you find such diversity, such diverse food and culture. These are the things that artists draw from. The city has directly impacted on my career- every good song you’ve heard from me is from and inspired by Joburg. It’s a beautiful thing,” he said.
Meanwhile, the list of stars who will be gracing the stage at the ceremony this year has not been made public. However, the organizers of the event have promised to reveal the performers ASAP.
This and the announcement of nominees to be held in Johannesburg and Lagos, Nigeria are expected over the next few weeks.
So…Joburg get ready to get your groove on!
