The African National Congress (ANC) has rendered an apology to award-winning actress Vatiswa Ndara for using her picture without obtaining permission.
Apparently, the political party made use of her picture during the August 3 local government elections to scout for votes.
The actress reportedly threw tantrums after she discovered her picture on the party’s social media accounts. This was during the last municipal elections which saw political parties using different strategies to woo voters.
In the midst of the political tumult, Vatiswa Ndara spotted her picture of a character from the Xhosa drama series; Igazi. The picture was trending and circulating on social media, courtesy of the ruling party. To crown it all, the picture was accompanied by the message: “Siyanqoba; I Vote ANC.”
Nevertheless, the ruing party has on Tuesday issued a statement apologizing for the chaos they caused. The statement also acknowledged that the actress never gave her permission for the picture to be used.
The statement read;
“Ms Ndara did not give permission for the image to be utilized nor for her character to be associated with the ANC campaign. As soon as this matter was brought to our attention, the image was removed from ANC platforms.”
National spokesperson for the ANC, Zizi Kodwa also went on to state that the party will comply with Vatiswa’s request to ensure that the apology is rendered well.
“The ANC unreservedly apologises to Ms Ndara for any harm our error may have caused her and we will comply with her stated request to a Sunday paper, that our public apology also be posted on the ANC Instagram account,” said Zizi.
Meanwhile, Vatiswa’s picture was circulated along with other high-profile personalities. Stars like Riky Rick; Thembi Seete and Zahara who didn’t hide their support for the ANC were also used.
