One hundred and twenty-three SABC workers are now unemployed as the South African Broadcasting Corporation has decided to dismiss the 123 employees with immediate effect following the outcome of an intensive investigation into medical aid fraud allegations.
The media outlet related in a media statement that with the intensive investigation, the outcome was such that the Corporation was forced to axe the workers.
“Following this process, the outcome of the respective cases was such that the Corporation was left with no other choice but to terminate their employment contracts, as the finding of guilt for dishonesty is regarded in a serious light.”
According to the statement, about 200 SABC workers were initially implicated when the medical aid fraud allegations surfaced. But then, the in-depth investigation that was carried out reduced the number.
Confirming this, Hlaudi Motsoeneng – SABC Chief Operations Officer asserted that “SABC remains committed to rooting out corruption and fraud. We take such cases seriously,” Motsoeneng warned.
Meanwhile this isn’t the first time an establishment in the country uncovered that their employees are involved with fraudulent practices at workplace.
Sometime last month, it was discovered that KZN social development staff defrauded the department of R19 million annually.
BuzzSouthAfrica then, gathered that 1376 grants for foster care were processed for foster care and for children who are not existing. Speaking on that, Weziwe Thusi, KNZ’s Social Development MEC said the massive fraud made mockery of a system which was meant to benefit the needy. “It is a pity that people who are at the center of this fraud are people who are supposed to protect the needy,” Thusi said.
